Intravitreal long-acting corticosteroid injection such as triamcinolone acetonide is effective in many ocular chronic disorders. Intravitreal injections of triamcinolone acetonide have been used widespread as a treatment for intraocular diseases with intraretinal oedema and subfoveal fluid accumulation, such as diffuse diabetic macular oedema, persistent pseudophakic cystoid macular oedema, central retinal vein occlusion, and exudative age related macular degeneration. Intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation, cataract formation, retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage and infectious or sterile endophthalmitis are reported complications.
