İ.Ü. Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fak. Göz Hast. AD., İstanbul Purpose: To review the results of the radial optic neurotomy in ischaemic type central retinal vein obstruction

Materials and Methods: The study was planned as nonrandomized , noncontrolled, interventional case series. Six eyes of 6 patients underwent single-cut radial optic neurotomy(RON) for the treatment of ischaemic type central retinal vein obstruction(CRVO). Visual acuity, biomicroscopy, funduscopy and fluorescein angiographic findings taken at pre and postoperative period and complications were evaluated.

Results: Mean age of six patients of whose one is woman were 68.8 years. Mean time interval between the occurance of disease and surgical intervention were 2.1 months. While preoperative visual acuity was counting finger(CF) at 1 m. in 4 eyes; hand movement(HM) in 2 eyes; it was CF at 2 meters in 2 eyes; CF at 1 m. in 2 eyes; HM in 1 eye; light perception in 1 eye at the end of mean follow-up time of 5.5 months. The complications were hemorrhage during surgery in 2 eyes, retinal detachment complicated with proliferative vitreoretinopathy in 2 eyes, intravitreal hemorrhage in 2 eyes and neovascular glaucoma in 1 eye.

Conclusion: The efficiacy and safety of RON for the treatment of ischaemic type CRVO needs to be studied in controlled and randomized studies. Keywords : Ischaemic Type Central Retinal Vein Obstruction, Radial Optic Neurotomy
