Trakya Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Edirne Purpose: To investigate the role of Scanning Laser Tomography (Laser Diagnostic Technology, TopSS-version 4.0.06) in the diagnosis and follow up of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR).

Materials and Methods: 10 eyes of the 10 cases ophtalmoscopically suspected to have CSCR and exactly diagnosed with Fundus Flourescein Angiography were included in this study. By means of TopSS, serous detachment area images of all the cases in the acute phase consulting for the control examination an average of 88.9±9.1 days after the acute attack were acquired.

Results: In the evaluation of the images obtained with TopSS from the eyes in acute phase, average diameter was observed to be 2.8±0.8 mm, total contour area 6.6±3.6 mm2 and volume above 1.6±0.9 mm3 As a result of the evaluation of the images belonging to the recovery period, average diameter was found to be 0.9±0.8 mm, total contour area 1.2±1.3 mm2 and volume above 0.2±0.3 mm3. Comparing the parametric values obtained during the recovery period with the ones belonging to the acute phase, statistically, a significantly great decrease was observed in the former (p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.00).

Conclusion: TopSS is a noninvasive and quantitative method of examination which can be utilised in the diagnosis and follow up of CSCR. Keywords : Central serous chorioretinopathy, scanning laser tomography, serous detachment.
