Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation of juxtafoveal choroidal neovascularization(CNV) secondary to different etiologies.

Materials and Methods: Nine eyes of 9 patients with CNV were reviewed. Seven eyes with juxtafoveal CNV secondary to age-related macular degeneration and 2 eyes with idiopathic juxtafoveal CNV were treated with argon green laser photocoagulation.

Results: The patients were followed-up between 3-24 months (median 12 months). Pretreatment visual acuities (VA) were ranging between counting finger at 4 meter and 0.9. VA's were 0.1 at 3 months, counting finger at 5 meter at 6- month, counting finger at 4 meter at 12- month and counting finger at 3 meter at 24-month. Persistant CNV occured in 4 eyes (44.4%) and these eyes received multipl laser treament. Recurrence was observed in 5 eyes (55.5%). Complete destruction of CNV with one session laser treatment could be achieved in 3 eyes(33,3%).

Conclusion: Laser photocogulation of juxtafoveal CNV can prevent loss of visual acuity. However , high persistant and recurrent CNV rate occur due to localization of CNV's in this group.

Keywords : Juxtafoveal choroidal neovascularization, laser photocoagulation
