Impaired Vision And Related Factors In Cases With Diabetic Retinopathy

CÜTF Göz Hast AD. Impaired vision and related factors in cases with diabetic retinopathy were evaluated in 128 outstanding patients in Cumhuriyet University, Ophthalmology Department of Medical Faculty, from the points of visual acuity, age, hypertension, duration of diabetes, control of diabetes, and a cause of visual loss. Visual acuity was 0.1 or less than 0.1 in 16.6% of cases. Visual acuity was determined better than 0.1 in all subjects with diabetes for less than 5 years. However, 0.1 or less than 0.1 visual acuity was present in 18%in 6-10 years, in 15% in 11-15 years, in 43% in 16-20 years, 44% in more than 20 years diabetes. The most frequent pathologies that effect the visual acuity were diabetic maculopathy, proliferative retinopathy and advanced diabetic eye disease. Diabetic retinopathy still is an important problem because of the late diagnosis of retinopathy and difficulties in advanced diabetic eye therapy.
