Retinal Detachments Following Cataract Surgery

Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fak. Göz Hast AD. In our study retinal detachments which developed in 1991 cases after cataract surgery were evaluated retrospectively. The rate of retinal detachments (RD) following intracapsuler surgery (ICCE) and extracapsuler surgery (ECCE) were 4.48% and 1.79% respectively. In eyes with vitreous loss during surgery detachments has been detected in 4.04% of 99 cases. 85.7% of detachments following cataract surgery developed during the first year postoperatively. Despite the cases were followed up after surgery they were diagnosed as total retinal detachment in 64.28%. In our study success rate of retinal detachment surgery was 85.7% in aphakic and pseudo phakic eyes. Keywords : Cataract Surgery, Retinal Detachment
