SSK Ankara Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği We treated 40 chosen cases of complicated retinal detachment with scleral buckling and perfluorocarbon gases between the years March 1992- June 1994. Cases are followed up for 2-24 months. 10 eyes were aphakic, 5 were pseudophakic and 12 were phakic. 5 eyes had traumatic retinal detachment while 3 were retinoschisis, 2 were giant retinal tears and 3 were recurrent retinal detachment. Grade (B) proliferative vitreoretinopathy was present in all eyes.
Following transscleral cryopexy and scleral buckling procedures, 0.4 ml of %30 Per fluoropropane (C3F8), were injected into 27 eyes, while 0.8 ml of %30 sulfurhexafluoride (SF6) were introduced into 13. After this operation retina reattached in 35 eyes, while no reattachment in 5 eyes. Cataract is developed in 2 eyes, while increasing intraocular pressure in 3, choroidal detachment in one, vitreous haemorrhage in one and ptosis in one eye. Advantages and disadvantages of the procedure are reported.
