Prophylaxis For Adverse Reaction After Fluorescein Angiography

It has been reported that the adverse reactions especially nausea and vomiting following the intravenous administration of fluorescein that is widely used in ophthalmology. In this study, it has been investigated the frequency of nausea and vomiting following intravenous administered fluorescein studied in 60 patients given prophylactically antiemetic (metoclopramide) and 120 patients given no antiemetic drug. It has been observed that have been occurred 16% of nausea, 7.5% of vomiting in the antiemetic untreated patients group, 7% of nausea, 3.3% of vomiting in the antiemetic-treated patients group occurred. It has been found that a statistically significant decrease has occured in the incidence of nausea in antiemetic treated group. In conclusion it has been considered that antiemetic drug administration is an effective method drug when used prophylactically in patients undergoing fluorescein angiography.
