EXTRACTION OF DROPPED NUCLEUS DURING PHACOEMULSIFICATION WITH PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY AND LIQUID PERFLUOROCARBONS IN THE SAME SESSION
SSK Ankara Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği
Ten patients with dropped nucleus during phacoemulsification were treated with pars plana vitrectomy and liquid perfluorocarbons for the removal of nucleus from vitreous in the same session. In the first week postoperatively, significant ciliary injection and anterior chamber reaction were present in 4 (40 %), corneal edema in 3 (30%), keratic striopathies in 4 patients (40%) and decreased intraocular pressure (7 mmHg) in 1 patient. Chronic glaucoma and retinal detachment were detected in none of the patients. Visual acuities were 0.1 or worse in 4 (40 %), between 0.2 and 0.4 in 3 (30 %) and 0.5 or better in 3 patients (30 %). In their last control, 3 patients (30 %) had the visual acuity between 0.2 and 0.4 while 7 patients (70 %) having 0.5 or better. It is more beneficial to treat patients with dropped nucleus during phacoemulsification with pars plana vitrectomy and liquid perfluorocarbons in the same session.
