Objective: We aim to evaluate our surgical results of rhegmatonegous retinal detachment (RRD) patients treated with silicone oil tamponade and to investigate factors determining postoperative visual acuity (VA).

Materials and Methods: This retrospective study includes RRD cases treated with silicone oil tamponade which were evaluated in terms of anatomical and functional success, complications and associated factors.

Results: Sixty fi ve eyes of 65 patients were included in this study. In 36 (%55,4) eyes pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), in 1 (%1,5) eye PPV + scleral buckle, and in 28 (%43,1) eyes phacoemulsifi cation and intraocular lens implantation+ PPV was performed. Preoperative mean LogMAR which was 2,6 ± 0,8 (0,2-3,1), decreased to 1,2 ± 0,7 (0,1-3,1), (P < 0.001). After evaluating the factors related to RD, pseodophakia (%32) was shown as the most common related factor. The most common intraoperative complication was iatrogenic retinal break (%13.8) and the most common postoperative complication was high IOP (%46.2). In the model developed to investigate factors that determine the postoperative BCVA; follow-up time, preop BCVA, anatomic success and ERM were determined as the most signifi cant factors (respectively; p<0,001, p=0,008, p=0,001, p=0,002).

Conlusions: Combined PPV with silicone oil tamponade in the treatment of patients with RRD is an effective and safe treatment option with acceptable complications. Initial visual acuity, follow-up time, ERM are related factors to the last BCVA. Keywords : Rhegmatonegous retinal detachment, pars plana vitrectomy, silicon oil tamponade
