Adaptive optics is a novel technology that compensates for the eye?s optical higher order of aberrations, enabling unprecedented visualization of many retinal structures in the living eye, including individual photoreceptors, the microvasculature, retinal nerve fiber bundles, the retinal pigment epithelium, and the lamina cribrosa. Adaptive optics only provides high resolution over small field of view, usually 1-4 degrees. The current state of AO retinal imaging has been briefl y summarized in this review. Current as well as future clinical applications of AO retinal imaging and research needs to facilitate more widespread clinical use wewre also discussed. Keywords : Adaptive Optics, Microstructural Changes, Retina
