Purpose: In optic neuritis patients, vision recovers after an active period while phsycophysical tests rernain to be defective. Color vision was tested with two separate procedures in these patients

Material and Method: In our neuro-opthalmology department, 18 eyes of the 15 patients who had previous optic neuritis history were evaluated for color vision with Ishihara and Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue test (F-M 100-Hue test).

Results: Color vision was normal and near to the normal with Ishihara test in all patients. However color vision defect was recorded with F-M 100-Hue test which was not definable by a specific pattern.

Conclusion: In optic neuritis patients although vision decreased slightly, color vision is impaired obviously. After the active period, the visual acuity recovers to normal and near to normal values while color vision remains defective. The difference between ishıhara and F-M 100-Hue test can be explained by that ishihara test is a pseudoisochromatic test and is not sensitive enough to quantify the acquired color vision pathologies. Keywords : Optic neuritis, color vision tests, psychophysical tests
