Surgical Treatment in Diabetic Glaucoma Patients

Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Balikesir/TURKEY Even though there are controversial findings that diabetes increases the risk of glaucoma, today diabetes is regarded to be a defined risk factor for primary open angle glaucoma. Intraocular pressure regulation is easier by using new combined medications, however surgical treatment may be needed in uncontrolled glaucoma with medical treatment or visual field and nerve fiber layer detoriation despite to treatment. In this review laser, penetrating, non-penetrating and combined surgical treatments are summarized in diabetic patients with primary open angle glaucoma.
