Fundus autofluorescence as a quick and non-invasive imaging tool may visualise disease-specific distribution of lipofuscin in the retinal pigment epithelium. Autofluorescence images can be used to differentiate and follow-up many retinal dystrophies. The high correlation of autofluorescence with electrophysiologic tests demonstrates that autofluorescence abnormalities have functional significance and may be an important parameter in the monitoring of these patients. This review aims to define the spectrum of fundus autofluorescence changes in a variety of retinal dystrophies. To illustrate these changes, all images in this review are from our clinic patients with retinal dystrophy such as Stargardt disease, Best vitelliform macular dystrophy, familial dominant drusen, pattern dystrophy and rod-cone and cone dystrophy. Keywords : Fundus autofluorescence, macular dystrophy, lipofuscin
