A sixty-two year old male presented with decreased vision and central scotoma in the left eye. His past ocular history revealed rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair with pars plana vitrectomy and silicone oil injection in the same eye. The silicone oil was removed after 4 months. His ocular examination showed subfoveal and multipl extrafoveal perflourocarbon liquid(PFCL). Pars plana vitrectomy with 23 Gauge (G) was performed. The retina was detached through the retinotomy placed near the superior temporal vascular arcade using the 39 G needle. The PFCL was aspirated by changing the head position. His preoperative vision of 20/400 improved to 20/100 in the first year of operation. His scotoma decreased in size.
In the presence of multiple subretinal PFCL, the extrafoveal retinotomy followed by changing the head position is helpful in successful removal of the PFCL.
Keywords : Subretinal perfluorocarbon liquide, optic cohorence tomography
