Twenty-four-year old male patient applied with the complaint of painless loss of vision in his left eye. Fundoscopy revealed pale and edematous retina through superior temporal and nasal retinal artery and fundus fluorescein angiography (FA) showed filling defect at the affected arterial segment. To reduce intraocular pressure, systemic agents were applied and 0.1 ml anterior chamber paracentesis was performed three hours later after the semptoms began.
Visual acuity was increased at the first postoperative day and FA revealed reperfusion of the retina. The patient was investigated for the etiology, and plasma homocysteine level was found to be elevated. In this report, we discuss the visual prognosis of paracentesis alignment of superior hemispheric retinal artery occlusion in a young case with hyperhomocysteinemia.
