Retinal Dystrophies

Dr. Retinal dystrophies are a group of inherited retinal disorders with a complex genetics characterized by irreversible photoreceptor damage. The disease symptoms sometimes overlap each other and there is still no effective treatment modality. Many gene mutations associated with retinal distrophies have been defined. Different phenotypic presentations may be seen even in the same family. In this talk, retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and allied disorders (complicated forms, Leber’s comgenital amarousis etc), and different forms of cone dystrophies will be discussed with typical case presentations. At the end, management of these cases and promising new treatment approaches will be discussed in brief.
